Pitbull
Americký pitbull teriér je známý pro svoji inteligenci a oddanost, které z něho činí vynikající, milující a ochranářské společníky. Hlavní otázkou je, čím se toto plemeno liší od Staffordšírského teriéra. Podle Amerického Kennel Clubu jsou stejným plemenem, ale s mnohými neshodami. Jeho předkové byli přivezení do Spojených států uprostřed 19. století bostonsko- irskými přistěhovalci. Jeho původ pochází z různých buldoků a teriérů. Největšího úspěchu dosáhli v 15. až 18. století, kdy byli zobrazováni jako účastníci psích zápasů a honů. Američtí chovatelé zvýšili jeho hmotnost a dali mu silnější hlavu. Původně byli chováni jako bojovní psi. Býčí zápasy však byly v Anglii zakázan
é v roce 1835 a od té doby tito psy již nadále k bojovým ú
čelům chování nebyly. V registrování tohoto plemena však existují jisté komplikace. Organizace AKC považuje American Staffordshire Terrier za oddělené a odlišné od Amerického Pit Bull Terrier, nicméně UKC zaregistruje obě plemena jako America Pit Bull Terier.
V Americe však chov tohoto plemene jen kvetlo. Americký pitbull teriér byl nejpopulárnějším plemenem, vysoce ceněný širokým
spektrem lidí. Byl používán jako představitel US v 1. světové válce, populární společnosti jako RCA a Buster Brown Shoe Company používaly toto plemeno jako své maskoty. Pitbul jménem Petie hrál také v populárních dětských televizních sériích. Pitbul jménem Stuby se stal oceněným hrdinou 1. světové války. Pitbulové také doprovázeli rodiny průkopníků na jejich průkopnických cestách. Slavní jedince jako Theodore Roosvelt a Helen Keller vlastnili celý chov. To všechno bylo během doby, ve které se Americký pitbul stal miláčkem celé Ameriky, tedy obdivovaný, respektovaným a milovaným plemenem. V roce 1898 Americký Kennel Club byl vytvořený s jasným záměrem poskytnout registraci a směrnice pro nyní již oficiálně pojmenovaného Amerického pitbulla. Americký pitbulteriér je nyní registrován organizacemi: UCA, UKC, NKC, ADBA, CKC, APBR, APRI, ACR.
POPIS:
Americký pitbull teriér je pes sály, vášně a nehynoucí ochoty. Je velmi silný a zavalitý, avšak dosti živý a hbitý pes, který je na svoji velikost extrémně silný. Hlavu má ne příliš dlouhou, s výraznými lícními kostmi, je hranatá, poněkud cihlového tvaru, nejširší by měla být mezi ušima, ke zbytku těla je však proporcionálně vyvážená. Oči má malé, zakulacené, hlouběji posazené, při pohledu ze strany mají trojúhelníkový tvar, jakékoliv zbarvení je povolené. Mohutnější krk s dobře vyvinutými svaly plynně přechází v silnou a hlubokou hruď.
VÝŠKA:
Americký pitbull teriér má v kohoutku 45 až 55 cm.
VÁHA:
Americký pitbull teriér 16 až 36 kg.
SRST:
Americký pitbull teriér má krátkou, silnou a jasnou srst. Zbarvení srsti je jakékoliv.
CHARAKTER:
Americký pitbull teriér je odvážný pes, plný síly a energie. Socializovaný by měl být brzy, nejlépe s dětmi či ostatními zvířaty. Honosí se svojí silou a nebojácností. Není možné ignorovat specializaci tohoto plemene, určenou pro boje. Tento pes se může stát dobrým společníkem a miláčkem rodiny, ale pouze v rukou opravdu zkušeného majitele.
PÉČE:
Americký pitbull teriér potřebuje pravidelné kartáčování štětinatým kartáčem, jen tak bude jeho srst jasná a čistá. Koupejte ho jen v případě nezbytnosti. Potřebuje také vcelku značné množství tělesné zátěže, které však musí absolvovat na obojku. Velice rád běží vedle jezdce na kole. Již od štěňěčího věku ho vychovávejte důsledně a pevnou rukou. Tento pes není vhodný pro ty, kteří nemají žádné zkušenosti se psy.
